Des hommes armés ont attaqué un camp militaire au Mali près de la frontière avec la Mauritanie, tuant 20 soldats dimanche, ont annoncé le gouvernement et les forces armées.
Le camp de Sokolo dans la région de Ségou reste sous le contrôle de l’armée malienne, ont indiqué les forces armées dans un communiqué sur Twitter. Le gouvernement du Mali a déclaré que l’attaque avait causé d’importants dégâts matériels et que des renforts avaient été envoyés. Des reconnaissances aériennes sont en cours pour retrouver les tireurs, a indiqué le communiqué dans condamnant l’attaque.
Souleymane Maiga, un habitant de Sokolo, a déclaré que les assaillants avaient temporairement pris le contrôle du camp. « Le camp de l’armée a été attaqué ce matin par des hommes armés », a-t-il déclaré. «Les assaillants ont temporairement pris le contrôle du camp et ont tout détruit avant de partir. Beaucoup de soldats qui se trouvaient dans le camp se sont réfugiés dans le village », a-t-il poursuivi cité par Al arabya.
L’attaque n’a pas été revendiquée mais porte la marque de groupes extrémistes liés à Al-Qaïda qui sont basés dans la forêt de Wagadu, située à environ 50 kilomètres (30 miles) du village attaqué.
