Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro couldn’t do anything against the steamroller that is Taylor Swift. The recording of his record-breaking tour The Eras Tour remains at the top of the American box office, just ahead of Martin Scorsese’s great historical and Native American fresco Killers Of The Flower Moon.
For its second weekend of operation, the Karma singer’s concert fell by almost 66% but still amassed $31 million in revenue. With a total of 129 million in revenue since its release, the show enters the very exclusive club of films
to exceed 100 million dollars. Eras Tour becomes the first filmed concert to reach such a threshold.
Third best start for a Scorsese
Martin Scorsese’s epic drama has grossed $23 million. This is the Taxi Driver director’s third best start, behind Shutter Island and The Departed. With nearly 3.5 hours on the clock and its subject – the massacre of the Osage Indians in the 1920s – Killers Of The Flower Moon, which could not count on its actors to do promotion due to the strike, aimed at an audience more adult. No expert prediction placed Killers Of The Flower Moon at the top of the box office. But its good start suggests that the film will be able to settle down and have a long-term career and rely on word of mouth like The Wolf of Wall Street, the last collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Killers Of The Flower Moon, which totaled 21 million revenues abroad, marks a turning point in Apple TV+’s operating strategy which lets the film have a traditional theatrical release. It will remain on display for at least 45 days. The platform will later offer it to its subscribers. A model that will be closely observed by competing streaming platforms.
Third and distant place on the podium is won by The Exorcist – Devotion, the horror film by David Gordon Green which adds a small 5.6 million dollars to these receipts.
