Famous New York rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested this weekend in the Dominican Republic. The artist is suspected of assaulting two music producers as part of a feud involving his girlfriend and colleague, Yailin La Más Viral.
National Police officers arrested the New York rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, at the Balcones Hotel in the Dominican town of Sanchez last Friday, according to a police statement released Sunday. Police identified the victims of the attack as Cristian Anthony Rojas and Nelson Alfonso Hilario García, two music
producers. Dominican police also issued an arrest warrant for a second person whose identity has not been revealed.
Greeted by a horde of fans in front of the prison
A horde of fans greeted Hernandez at the jail and officers quickly ushered the rapper into the facility in handcuffs, according to a video posted on social media.
The two music producers accused the artist of violently beating them in a music studio in La Vega on Friday, according to Diario Libre, a local media outlet. The rapper reportedly showed up at the studio with four other men around midnight, asking to see his girlfriend, Yailin, the daily reports. She had come to the studio to record a song with producer Diamond La Mafia, but left before the arrival of the American star.
The police did not communicate on the reasons for the attack, but the latter declared that the rapper was “jealous” of him and Yailin. One of the victims, who spoke to the newspaper, said she had to undergo surgery to repair her injured jaw.
CCTV footage that circulated online and was published by the website TMZ shows the moments leading up to the attack. Five individuals – some wearing black hoods and one of whom authorities believe is the star rapper – can be seen entering and leaving the studio.
On Friday evening, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Tekashi 6ix9ine, who agreed by phone to turn himself in to the police, according to Dominican Today.
Known for his escapades and already convicted
The rapper, known for his rainbow hair, facial tattoos and hits including « Gummo » and « Fefe, » was arrested in 2015 in New York on suspicion of involvement in the recording and distribution of a video in which a 13-year-old girl engages in sexual acts. He pleaded guilty that year to one count of use of a child in a sexual performance and was sentenced in 2018 to four years of probation, according to CBS News.
Also in 2018, Hernandez was arrested a second time in New York and faced federal criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and armed robbery, as well as his association with the « Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods,” known by authorities as a particularly violent street gang.
